Environmental Education at the Preserves

Trees and Me
From birds to squirrels to people - we all need trees! Children will explore these green creatures through creative movement, stories and a hike.
{May-November}
Program Length: 1 hour

Pretty Prairie
Preschoolers will take a hike through the prairie and see how tall they are among the tall, tallgrass. We will also find out who calls the prairie home.
{June-November}
Program Length: 1 hour

Beautiful Birds
Students become birds through costumes and flying games. We will make nests, lay eggs and even peck at worms!
{Year-Round}
Program Length: 1 hour

Buggy Basics
Youngsters love to learn what makes bugs special by wearing bee costumes and doing the waggle dance. Enjoy a hike for insects and end the day with a buggy story.
{April-November}
Program Length: 1 hour

Frog Follies
Explore the frog and toad life cycle. Have a hoppin' good time while singing in a frog chorus and turning a person into a frog.
{Mid-April - Mid-October}

Reptile Romp
Meet our center's reptiles and then go for a hike to see where they might live.

Wild About Mammals
What creatures live in your backyard and are warm-blooded and furry? Mammals! Explore the world of mammals through a hike and hands-on activities.

Naturalist in the Classroom
A member of the environmental education staff will visit your preschool and bring the flora and fauna indoors. Please choose from the previous list of preschool field trips for possible programs.

Museum Discovery
Preschool children will experience early pioneer life through all their senses. The program includes a walk through the museum and age-appropriate, hands-on activities.

Plant Science Education at the Mabery Gelvin Botanical Garden

Garden Friends
From seeds to weeds to centipedes, the garden is home to all. Explore the world of gardens and the life within through songs, planting and hands-on activities.
