School Programs

Prairie Adventures School ProgramWelcome Teachers!
We provide hands-on learning experiences for your students in the study of history, plant science and the environment. We know you will find a program or two that will help your students understand the unique history, plant and animal life found in Champaign County. Most of our programs can be effectively adjusted for younger or older audiences. If we can help you find the right fit for your classroom, please contact us.

As always, the Forest Preserve District provides a variety of special resources for teachers, including age-appropriate displays, handbooks and binders, and backpacks for your class to take on the trails.

Expanding our Focus
We are pleased to announce that the Early American Museum and the Environmental Education Center have new names. The Early American Museum is now the Museum of the Grand Prairie. The Environmental Education Center is now called the Homer Lake Interpretive Center and serves as a satellite facility of the Museum of the Grand Prairie. They are the same buildings with a bigger, broader mission.

The newly-integrated Museum and Education Department offers programs throughout the county at forest preserve sites, and for some curricula, we'll come right to your classroom. Please consult program descriptions for precise locations.
