Administrative Committee

Initial Directives:

  1. Acquire rail corridor in Champaign and Vermilion Counties.
  2. Begin overall plan for the trail in conjunction with all other commitees.
  3. Begin trail construction.
  4. Oversight of all committees associated with Trail.
  5. Organize, write and approve trail regulations, rules and ordinances.

Fundraising Committee

Initial Directives:

  1. Organize capital campaign for trail construction fundraising.
  2. Support and Write Grants appropriate for construction and maintenance.
  3. Organize Annual Campaign for trial maintenance.

Recreation Committee

Initial Directives:

  1. Help promote the recreational activities of the trail.
  2. Provide support to the administrative committee and the planning and publicity committee in their efforts to fundraise, promote and improve the trail.


Initial Directives:

  1. Determine and mark property boundaries.
  2. Assess trail for future maintenance needs.

Education Committee

Initial Directives:

  1. Develop web based information and pictorial about the rail use, natural resources, historical education opportunities of the trail.
  2. Develop educational opportunities along trail in the form of trailside interpretation.

Natural Resources Committee

Initial Directives:

  1. Develop a map of natural areas, rare plants, wetlands, etc. to ensure that construction and easement requests do not destroy or alter natural areas.
  2. Develop a natural areas plan for the corridor that will be part of the master plan for the corridor.

Planning and Publicity

Initial Directives:

  1. Develop maps of the corridor that can be used for fundraising, safety training, trail planning, etc. Development of maps for the website are the first priority.
  2. Work with other committees to help design brochures and promotional items for fundraising, public education about the trail, and staff education about the trail.
