ARCHIPELAGOS ON THE PRAIRIE: MID-CENTURY MODERNISM IN CENTRAL ILLINOIS
Museum of the Grand Prairie, Lake of the Woods Forest Preserve, 2 p.m.
Jack Baker, John G. Replinger, and A. Richard Williams taught at the University of Illinois, and advanced design practices over four decades that were influential in promoting modernism in the Midwest. Many of their architectural projects received statewide and national recognition from the American Institute of Architects. Come learn how their work integrated regional influences, organic materials, and careful considerations of place into modern functional architecture. Collectively, their built work is a legacy of mid-century modernity which began in east central Illinois. Lecture by UI Professor Emeritus Paul Armstrong. FREE.
