Treecycling at the Forest Preserves

The Champaign County Forest Preserve District will again accept used Christmas trees to be recycled after the holiday season. Please make sure all decorations and lights are removed. Trees may be dropped off at three forest preserve locations in the county through January 20th.

Drop-off locations are:
Lake of the Woods Forest Preserve in Mahomet, inside the maintenance entrance on Route 47
Middle Fork River Forest Preserve in Penfield, at the maintenance building
Homer Lake Forest Preserve in Homer, in the maple grove area

The Homer Lake location is available 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM daily. The other two do not have time limitations. More information is available by calling 217-586-3360.

Trees will be used by the Forest Preserve District in one of two ways. They will either be sunk into the lakes for fish habitat, or they will be chipped and placed around plantings throughout the District’s 3,899 acres.
