Part-Time Environmental Education Seasonal Educators
We have openings for several Environmental Education Seasonal Educators. Main duties are: teaching Eco-Adventures summer daycamp (preK-5th grade); conducting other educational programs for youth and adults; developing educational materials; assisting with special programs and events, care of the Education Center’s resident animals, and daily operation of the Education Center. Applicants must be available to work occasional Saturdays and evenings.
Qualifications include excellent communication skills; experience working with children; knowledge of area flora and fauna; college-level coursework in Natural Resources, Education or related field; and ability to work outdoors in all conditions.
This is a part-time seasonal position (approx. 30 hours/week) available from June through early August. Pay rate is $8.25-9.00 per hour depending on experience. The primary work location is Homer Lake Forest Preserve. Part-Time Seasonal Campground Naturalist
We have an opening for a part-time, seasonal Campground Naturalist. Main duties include: developing and conducting naturalist programs at the Middle Fork River Forest Preserve campground; and developing educational materials and curriculum. Candidate must be available to work weekends and evenings and possess excellent communication skills; experience working with the public, including children; knowledge of area flora and fauna. Experience in environmental or outdoor education is desirable, and a Bachelor’s degree in Natural Resources, Education or related field is a plus but not required. Candidate must have ability to work outdoors in all conditions and with minimal supervision.
This is a part-time seasonal position (approx. 26 hours/week) available from late May through Labor Day weekend. The primary work location is Middle Fork River Forest Preserve in Penfield. Pay rate is $8.75-9.50 per hour depending on experience. Part-Time Seasonal Park Maintenance - Homer Lake Forest Preserve
Applications are being accepted for a part-time seasonal Park Maintenance position to work weekends and holidays at Homer Lake Forest Preserve, in Homer, Illinois. High School diploma or GED is required. Experience in the general maintenance of grounds and/or buildings and facilities is recommended, along with good public relations skills, being responsible and dependable, having janitorial abilities, and experience operating and maintaining power equipment. The position requires the ability to lift up to 50 lbs including tables/chairs/picnic tables and 55-gallon trash bags.
This person will clean and set up rental facilities, clean restrooms (indoor and vault toilets), pick up litter, provide information to preserve visitors, maintain flower beds and landscape areas, mow and string trim, provide minor equipment maintenance, paint and do other miscellaneous park maintenance. Candidate must demonstrate safe work habits, attention to detail, ability and willingness to learn new skills, ability to improve personal productivity, ability to work independently in an orderly and efficient manner, ability to accept authority, contribute ideas and inform supervisor of problems when they arise.
Hours are 6:00 AM-2:30 PM or 7:30 AM-4:30 PM (dependent on building rental times). Pay rate is $8.50-$12.00 per hour, dependent on qualifications. This is a part-time seasonal position that runs from April through October for a total of 504 hours.
