A Message from our Foundation Board
Dear Friends,
The CCFPD Foundation encourages donations each year at this time to benefit the District in its efforts to preserve and protect the natural Champaign County. This year, we are focusing on a very special project at River Bend Forest Preserve. Last year, thanks to a generous grant from the Kellogg Foundation (through the East Central Illinois Community Foundation), the District was able to create a one-of-a-kind facility known as "Possibility Pier."
This large floating structure is designed for universal accessibility. That is, it meets the needs of all, including those with disabilities. Every aspect of the Pier's design was painstakingly tested to ensure accessibility. The result incorporates fishing stations which allow a seated person to fish comfortably through special slots in the railing and utilize tackle tables at just the right height to hold their gear close by. A portion of the Pier is even under roof to keep the summer sun at bay, and an on-board picnic table means you can enjoy lunch right on the water!
Artificial aquatic weeds strung from the bottom of the Pier attract fish, and specially-constructed habitat structures sunk on the bottom do the same. The result is the best fishing opportunity in the county for those who do not have a boat.
We now hope to build on the initial success of Possibility Pier by extending its reach back to the shore. This will create a unique "water trail" in which those who fish and those who just enjoy being on the lake will be able to experience a walk on the water!
Your generous donation will benefit this project or any other you may wish to designate. Your past generosity has provided matching money for grants to acquire land and to develop facilities like Possibility Pier. Without your help, the District would not be as successful as it is.
Please consider a donation now and also keep the foundation in mind in your estate planning. Often a gift of stocks, bonds, IRAs, annuities or cash may result in significant tax savings as it supports this worthwhile cause. Please use this pamphlet to make your contribution. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Hugh Gallivan, President
