A Message from our Foundation Board
December 2008
Your Forest Preserve District protects and manages over 3,800 acres of our county’s woods, trails, wetlands, campsites, lakes and rivers. It also cares for and displays more than 15,000 pieces of our county’s history that can be cherished by generations to come. We hope that you have joined many others and taken the opportunity to visit and enjoy the Lake of the Woods, Homer Lake, Middle Fork, River Bend and the brand new Sangamon River forest preserves. We also hope you have strolled through the Early American Museum and Mabery Gelvin Botanical Garden. These are precious sanctuaries that truly improve our quality of life in Champaign County.
The Champaign County Forest Preserve District Foundation provides a way you can help preserve and enhance our county’s natural and historical treasures.
In the past two years, financial donations to the Foundation have supported:
▪ | the acquisition of 39 acres of land adjacent to the Middle Fork River Forest Preserve; |
▪ | the acquisition of 160 acres located two miles south of Fisher, creating the new Sangamon River Forest Preserve; |
▪ | the acquisition of a 4.68-acre addition to Patton Woods at Middle Fork; |
▪ | the development of a new exhibit at the Early American Museum portraying Abraham Lincoln, the Lawyer, working in Champaign County; and |
▪ | a scholarship for college students in natural resources and environmental science. |
We urge you to consider making a donation to the Champaign County Forest Preserve District Foundation to support the continued efforts of the Forest Preserve District. Please see the options for donation provided in the accompanying brochure.
Thank you for your support,
Hugh Gallivan, President
