Green Fire: Aldo Leopold and a Land Ethic for Our Time
is the first full-length, high-definition documentary film ever made about legendary conservationist Aldo Leopold and his environmental legacy. Green Fire shares highlights from his extraordinary career, explaining how he shaped conservation and the modern environmental movement. It also illustrates how Leopold's vision of a community that cares about both people and land continues to inform and inspire people across the country and around the world, highlighting modern projects that put Leopold’s land ethic in action in a multitude of ways. Following the film, Professor Eric T. Freyfogle, Max L. Rowe Professor of Law at the University of Illinois, will lead a discussion about Aldo Leopold and the impact that Leopold’s conservation ethic has had on the local landscape. Professor Freyfogle has authored or edited various books dealing with issues of humans and nature, including a collection of writings by Aldo Leopold, For the Health of the Land (Island Press 1999), which was co-edited by philosopher J. Baird Callicott. Drawing upon history, philosophy, biological sciences, economics, and literature, Freyfogle’s work is guided in large part by the conservation teachings of Aldo Leopold, a philosophy that seeks better ways for humans to live on the land.
