MUSEUM MONDAYS: OUR (not so) SECRET GARDEN
Do you and your family garden? What tools do you use? Come and help us plant something in our garden using gardening tools from our collection! You'll see that some things have changed quite a bit since the 19th century, but some ways of doing things are still very much the same!

Monday, June 9
MUSEUM MONDAYS: IT’S ALL LAWNS AND GAMES
We see lawns everywhere today, but before the 20th century, they were not so common!  We'll get a hands-on look and play some of the different games those lucky few used to play, including lawn bowling and croquet! Originally a status symbol, lawns were kept by people wealthy enough to use their land for leisure instead of for income or farming.

MUSEUM MONDAYS: MAKING LEMONADE OUT OF A GARDEN!
When life gives you gardens, make lemonade! We’ll show you how to make lemonade out of herbs and other treats found in our garden. Not only will we make it, but we will drink it too!

Monday, June 23
MUSEUM MONDAYS: QUILTING WITH THE BEES
Sew your own quilt block, and make your own quilt! As a part of the Pollinatarium’s Quilting Bee project, Lesley Deem will be at the Museum of the Grand Prairie to help our visitors create their very own quilting block. Go to each of her programs to make different quilt blocks, and eventually put them together to make a quilt of your very own!

MUSEUM MONDAYS: DYE ANOTHER DAY
Experiment making your own fabric! Using natural dyeing techniques and different ways of creating pattern, you will have a beautiful piece of fabric ready to be framed or made into something new!

MUSEUM MONDAYS: THE SECRET LIFE OF BEES
Take a peek inside a live bee hive and learn about the secret lives of bees with the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign Pollinatarium Director, Lesley Deem! She will be bringing their Mobile Hive to show the life bees inside their complex home! For those with bee allergies, we do not plan to have any physical exposure, but please come prepared!

MUSEUM MONDAYS: KEEP CALM AND SEW ON
Learn and practice different hand sewing techniques on a sampler! Before we bought all of our clothes and linens from stores, many people made their own by hand sewing. Samplers were the perfect way to learn all the different stitches needed to make everything you could want!

Monday, July 21
MUSEUM MONDAYS: ALL THE WORLD’S A (MINIATURE) STAGE
Create a whole new world with your imagination! With a little felt, glue, and thread, we'll make finger puppets for a fine performance – whether woodland creatures, vegetables, or dragons, your new puppet will be the perfect character for your puppet theatre debut!

MUSEUM MONDAYS: WOODWORKING WITH HAND TOOLS
Think using a power tool is hard or scary? We're breaking out old tools from our collection for you to try! We will have drawknifes, spokeshaves, planes, hand drills and more. Imagine building a house or making a cabinet with these!

MUSEUM MONDAYS: HOMEMADE MUSIC!
Using everyday objects, we will make extraordinary instruments! Create an imaginary symphony with drums, harps, and shakers galore! Use what we have, or bring your own objects to make a truly unique and personal instrument. Try bringing wood boxes, rulers, branches, and whatever else you can think of! Let your imagination run wild!

MUSEUM MONDAYS: I SCREAM, YOU SCREAM…
We all scream for ICE CREAM! It's always been delicious, but it wasn't always such a common treat. We'll show you how ice cream has been made for many years, and also show you fun ways to make it at home. For those with allergies, we will be using dairy products, so please come prepared!
