Preventive Measures for the Emerald Ash Borer - Posted 04/09
Have you noticed some colorful boxes posted around the forest preserves? It’s a monitoring trap that the Illinois Department of Agriculture has placed in order to monitor a destructive pest, the Emerald Ash Borer (EAB). Approximately 2,700 traps are being placed in the 100-mile buffer zone outside of the last known infested area. Click here for a picture of the trap.
It is important to note that the traps will not attract EAB to the area, but will capture them if they are present. Public cooperation is important. We are asking that the traps be left alone. If you find one that is damaged or has fallen from its location, please contact the Illinois Department of Agriculture at 1-800-641-3934.
The traps have been hung to correspond with EAB emergence. If EAB is in the area, the adults will be present May through August. Traps will be removed after the adult flight season is complete.
