The Illinois General Assembly passed the Decennial Committees on Local Government Efficiency Act (P.A. 102-1088), which was signed into law by Gov. Pritzker and became effective in June 2022. All units of local government that may levy any tax must establish a committee to study local efficiencies and report recommendations to the county board within 18 months of forming their committee. The “Efficiency Committee” is responsible for identifying areas of efficiency and accountability within the Forest Preserve District and filing a written report of their findings to the County. The Efficiency Committee must meet a minimum of 3 times and all meetings fall under the Open Meetings Act (OMA) and Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). Public attendance and efficiency input are welcomed and desired.
