Accessible to You

Under Title II and Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act (42 USC 12131) and the Architectural Barriers Act, regulations prohibit public entities, such as the Champaign County Forest Preserve District, from discriminating against or excluding a person from programs, services, or activities on the basis of disability. The definition of programs and services is broad and includes the many recreation opportunities made available for CCFPD Patrons.

In 2011, CCFPD consulted with Beneficial Designs to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of facilities and amenities throughout the district. They reviewed each forest preserve for compliance with the updated standards from the original 2010 ADA Accessibility Guidelines, Illinois Accessibility Codes, and the proposed Outdoor Developed Standards. Each barrier was outlined in a transition plan and given a recommended solution for compliance.

Additionally, Title II of the ADA requires that one staff member be designated as ADA Coordinator. This person is responsible to receive, review, and respond to questions and concerns expressed by a person with a disability related to access of CCFPD facilities and programs. In addition, this person is responsible for the implementation of the removal of access barriers recognized in the transition plan.

Bridgette Moen is the designated ADA Coordinator for the Champaign County Forest Preserves. Her contact information is as follows,
